Course Description
Food safety is a fundamental aspect of most hospitality establishments. Our safe food handling course is suitable for those working in a variety of businesses, such as restaurants, cafes, hotels, bars, meal delivery services, and many more. You will gain the skills needed to work with food in any situation, as well as the different procedures and health standards that relate to transporting or serving food, cleaning food equipment, and working with a food safety program.
You will learn:
- Organisational procedures and food hazard control.
- Personal hygiene practices.
- Food contamination prevention.
- Correct storage and handling of food.
- Food-borne illness avoidance.
Anyone who works within a food business and handles, prepares or serves food would benefit from food safety training. This may include people in these roles:
- Kitchen hands, chefs and cooks;

Course Delivery
Our food safety training course is conducted in a single day with a combination of face-to-face classroom training and practical observation in simulated environments. Students are given the best opportunity to put their training into practice.

Pre-Requisites
This is an entry-level, basic food handling certificate and there are no educational prerequisites or prior qualifications necessary to enrol.
Participants must be at least 14 years of age to complete the course, and must provide 100 points of identification. Participants must also be able to complete a basic language, literacy and numeracy test.

Assessment Process
The assessment process will involve both theoretical and practical analysis of the student in relation to food safety procedures. Assessment of practical performance will be done by direct observation from an assessor in real time to ensure you are able to effectively use the skills taught.
Practical assessment will be conducted in a simulated real-life context and through role play scenarios. It may involve demonstrating safe food handling through tasks such as: appropriate use of uniform and PPE; hygienic food service; correct hand-washing procedures; and reporting of unsafe hygiene practices.
Theoretical assessment involves demonstrating knowledge of key food safety regulations and concepts, such as: basic aspects of food safety standards and legislation; health issues likely to cause a hygiene risk; when hand-washing is required; and effective personal health practices.
