RIIRTM301E
TMA trucks form a fundamental part of traffic and construction site safety. Our TMA driver course is designed for traffic management professionals who have three or more years of industry experience, giving them the opportunity to broaden their skills and take on new tasks. Students will learn how to safely work Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs) and drive a TMA truck. Our hands-on course provides the technical knowledge and practical experience required to operate safely in real traffic control environments.
This TMA course is designed for professionals working in operational roles where they typically work under minimal supervision to undertake a broad range of tasks. Our course delivers training that ensures participants can confidently operate a mounted attenuator and other necessary equipment, while also being able to plan and prepare its use and communicate effectively with other workers.
**WHAT IS A TRUCK MOUNTED ATTENUATOR **
A TMA is a type of impact attenuator (often known as a ‘crash cushion’) that is mounted on a truck or trailer and is designed to reduce damage in the case of a vehicle crash. A TMA vehicle is designed to absorb impact and provide a buffer zone between traffic and construction work areas, minimising the risk to worker safety.

Course Delivery
The mounted attenuator course is conducted in a single day and consists of a combination of face-to-face theoretical learning and simulated environments, giving you the best opportunity to put your training into practice.

Pre-Requisites
To enrol in this course, students must be able to provide evidence that they have a valid White Card and a valid Heavy Vehicle Driver’s Licence that is, at minimum, Medium Rigid (MR) or above.
Students must also have completed the training unit RIIWHS302E (Implement Traffic Management Plans) and be able to demonstrate 3 or more years of practical work experience in the traffic industry.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age to complete the course and must provide Physical identification (e.g., Australian Driver’s License, Passport). A list of approved ID can be viewed HERE

Assessment Process
The assessment process will involve both theoretical and practical analysis of the student. Assessment of practical performance will be done by direct observation from an assessor in real time.
Practical assessment will be conducted in a simulated real-life context relevant to the training. It may involve tasks such as: positioning traffic controls and signs as required; conducting pre-operational checks of the mounted attenuator; closing traffic lanes; and using communication techniques and equipment.
Theoretical assessment involves demonstrating knowledge of key concepts, such as: legislation around operating an impact attenuator truck; risk assessment; different work site requirements; and procedures for interpreting traffic management plans.
