Assessment Process
The assessment process will involve both theoretical and practical analysis of the student. Assessment of practical performance will be done by direct observation from an assessor in real time to ensure you are able to effectively use the skills taught.
Practical assessment will be conducted in a simulated real-life context and through role play scenarios. It may involve tasks such as: outlining three early indicators of intoxication; refusing sale or service of alcohol; demonstrating conflict resolution skills; and interpreting relevant state legal requirements.
Theoretical assessment involves demonstrating knowledge of key concepts, such as: ways of assessing intoxication; customers to whom service should be refused; the health effects of excessive drinking; and what constitutes a standard drink for different beverage types.
It is mandatory for professionals who serve alcohol as part of their work to undergo an RSA refresher course every three years. This ensures they have a valid RSA certificate, continue to meet the training requirements, and are up to date on any new legislation or best practices. RSA renewal is often shorter and able to be done solely online.
