Course Description
A White Card is your ticket to a career in the construction industry, and a legal requirement for all construction professionals. Any person who visits or works on a construction site is required by WorkSafe to present proof of completion of a general Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) construction training course.
What is White Card training?
White Card training – also known as construction induction training – is the only way to attain a verified White Card, which is mandatory evidence you must show to be able to work on a construction site. Training teaches students health and safety requirements on work sites, how to identify and manage risk, and injury prevention skills. Our course trainers provide white card induction training that is backed up by industry experience.
Who needs a White Card?
- Any person who performs construction work, including surveyors; site managers and supervisors; labourers; and trades people.
- Any person who accesses operational construction zones unaccompanied or without direct supervision by an inducted person, including labourers and trades people.
- Any person whose employment routinely requires them to enter any operational construction zones.

Education Pathways
Acquiring your CPCCWHS1001 White Card qualification is the first step in entering the construction industry. Other courses that may be beneficial to advance your career include:
Assessment Process
The white card training test will involve both theoretical and practical analysis of the student. Assessment of practical performance will be done by direct observation from an assessor at a white card course venue in real time.
Practical assessment will be conducted in a simulated real-life context relevant to the training. It may involve tasks such as identifying and reporting construction hazards; selecting appropriate PPE to control a risk; and explaining the meaning of required safety signs and symbols.
Theoretical assessment involves demonstrating knowledge of key concepts, such as duty of care; the meaning of the terms ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’; and the basic principles of risk management.
How long does a White Card last? Under current legislation, White Card certifications do not expire. However, it is recommended that professionals who have been away from the industry ensure their knowledge is accurate by completing a white card course.
Career Pathways
Successfully completing a White Card course opens up a number of potential career paths, including:
- Supervisor
- Construction worker
- Surveyor
- Site manager
